M.M. London Gazette 6 August 1918.

William Yates Sim was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, around 1895. A resident of Thurso, the northernmost town on the British mainland, Sim attested for the Seaforth Highlanders and served during the Great War on the Western Front from 3 October 1915. Medal records note that he was posted sick in September 1916 in consequence of impetigo. He returned to duty with the 7th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders on 15 September 1916, and was likely heavily engaged during the Battle of Le Transloy from 1 to 18 October 1916. Awarded the Military Medal whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, he was demobilised at the cessation of hostilities.
