Elizabeth Amy Rosa Ryan was born at Ootacamund, India, in 1866, where her father was a coffee planter, and taught at Bishop Cotton Girl’s School, Bangalore, prior to her marriage to James Orr at Ootacamund in 1898. Her war work was recognised by award of the Kaisar-I-Hind Medal in the 1917 New Year Honours. She died in 1935.
