D.C.M. London Gazette 15 March 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry, when he mended wires throughout the whole of the heavy bombardment.’
William Barry was born in Clapton Park and enlisted at Shoreditch, London. Serving with 81 Brigade R.F.A. he was awarded the D.C.M. Later, serving with “C” Battery, 79 Brigade R.F.A., he was killed in action on 5 July 1917. He was buried in the Point-du-Jour Military Cemetery, Athies, Pas de Calais, France.
