D.C.M. London Gazette 3 September 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Throughout nine days’ fighting this N.C.O., by his ability and leadership, rendered valuable assistance to his officers until they became casualties. On three different occasions he organised and rallied his platoon at great personal risk under heavy machine-gun fire. When his platoon commander was wounded, he led it forward in a counter-attack, and his dash and example were mainly responsible for the company reaching its objective.’
