A Great War ‘Egyptian Expeditionary Force’ D.F.C. group of three awarded to Lieutenant D. Alliban, Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force, late Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment, who was also Mentioned in Despatches

Distinguished Flying Cross, G.V.R., unnamed as issued, on original horizontal riband; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lieut. D. Alliban. R.A.F.) edge nicks, polished and worn, therefore good fine, the DFC better (3) £1,800-£2,200

Douglas Alliban was born on 23 February 1897 and was commissioned into the 4th Battalion, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. Transferring to the Royal Flying Corps on 11 September 1916 and sent to the School of Aviation, his first operation posting was to 56 Squadron as a Flying Officer on 31 May 1917. Serving in Palestine from September 1917, he transferred to the Royal Air Force as a Founder Member on 1 April 1918, and for his services with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force was both Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Promoted Lieutenant, he transferred to the Unemployed List on 17 May 1919.

i) A copy of the book Five Years in the Royal Flying Corps, by Major J. T. B. McCudden, V.C., D.S.O., M.C., M.M., dedicated to the Glorious Memory of the Royal Flying Corps
ii) Framed photographic display relating to K. F. Saunders, D.S.C., A.F.C., Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Air Force, a Canadian pioneer aviator who was trained at Wright Brothers Field
iii) A
renamed Victory Medal 1914-19 named to Lieut. G. S. Jones-Evans. R.A.F., who was awarded the Air Force Cross, with copied research.
