Sir David Baird’s Grant of Arms incorporating a Grenadier of the 54th Regiment and the “Tyger of Tippo Sultaun”

Allowing Baird, in recognition of his services in India and Egypt, supporters to his arms, “that is to say A GRENADIER IN THE UNIFORM OF HIS MAJESTY’S FIFTY FOURTH REGIMENT OF FOOT PROPER: AND ON THE SINISTER THE ROYAL TYGER OF TIPPO SULTAUN, GUARDANT, VERT, STRIPED OR; FROM THE NECK PENDANT BY A RIBBON AN ESCOCHEON GULES, CHARGED WITH AN ESTOILE OF EIGHT POINTS WITHIN AN INCRESCENT ARGENT (in allusion to the Badge of the said Ottoman Order of the Crescent), and on an Escroll under the said Escocheon the word ‘Seringapatam’; as the same are in the Margin hereof more plainly depicted”, vellum, illuminated with his arms, duty stamps, signed by Isaac Heard, Garter, his pendant seal in original skippet, in the original fitted calf case, tooled in gilt with the King’s cipher, 21ins. x 19.75ins., 26 September 1804
