It is generally assumed that the introduction of the Short Cross coinage dates from 1195 because of a reference in the contemporary Melrose Chronicle, although this is a full fifteen years after the changeover in England. Roxburgh was the most important mint at this period, with Raul responsible for more than half the entire production of Phase A.
