Auction Catalogue
Puddington, W. Waller, Halfpenny, 1797, bust right, from the die with the eye filled in, rev. three-masted ship, edge plain, 8.45g/6h (DH Bedfordshire 5). A little weak in centre of ship, otherwise about extremely fine and patinated, very rare (£500-700)
Provenance:
From a miscellaneous collection of coins found in a junk box in Poole, Dorset, 1986
DNW Auction 62, 30 June 2004, lot 1295.
Research by Michael Dickinson presented at the Token Congress in October 2005 would indicate that the tokens of Puddington should be correctly assigned to the village of Puddington, near Tiverton in Devon, not to the village of the same name located on the Bedfordshire/Northamptonshire border
