The restored coins of Trajan were issued in AD 107, and are considered to be struck on a single occasion for the entire issue of gold Aureii and silver Denarii. Trajan had recalled all the worn Republican Denarii from circulation, but did not want to lose their historical significance. This provided an opportunity to reflect and expand on the glory of Rome through these commerorative coins. All are extremely rare. This coin recalls an issue by Titus Carisius in 46 BC using the same imagery. Titus Carisius, an ally of Julius Caesar, formed the monetary triumvate of 46 BC with Cordius Rufus and Caius Considius.
