17th century, a latten seal top spoon, c. 1620-30, with pear-shaped bowl stamped with a small shield containing the maker’s mark in an oval cartouche of three spoons with a compass s between ?a; the tapering handle is square in section and terminates in a moulded baluster with a seal top knob; together with a latten Trefid spoon 6.5 cm x 4.5 cm, containing a similar maker’s mark [2]. Both intact, fine with a patina. £80-£100
Both found in Woodham in Bucks and recorded on PAS. (BUC-147F4D)
Trefid spoons originated in France and were introduced to Britain by Charles II in 1660
