Claudius (AD 41-54), Sestertius, bare head of Nero Claudius Drusus left, rev. Claudius seated left amidst arms, ti clavdivs caesar avg p m tr p imp p p s c (Sear 593; BMC 157; RIC (Claudius) 93). Some flaws to fabric and tooling to field, otherwise good very fine (£300-350)

Nero Claudius Drusus was the brother of Tiberius. He married Antonia, the daughter of Marc Antony and Octavia, and was the father of the dashing general Germanicus and the future emperor Claudius. Although relations with his nephew Germanicus and his family became strained in later years — to put matters mildly — Tiberius seemed genuinely fond of his brother, a succcessful general, and his death in 9 AD after falling from a horse was a personal blow. The coins of Nero Claudius Drusus were struck during the reign of his son Claudius.
