This would appear to be a contemporary fantasy group formed around Trooper Gallard’s sole entitlement of the Q.S.A. medal with 4 clasps (also due clasp for South Africa 1901) which he earned in the Imperial Yeomanry. The group is recorded by Mr E. E. Needes as being with a Mr Mackenzie in December 1912.
Frank John Gallard was born in the Parish of St Giles, London. He attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Maidstone on 9 January 1900, aged 31 years, then employed as a musical instrument maker for Messrs. Boosey & Co. in London’s Regent Street. Despite the fact that he claims to have served 12 years in the 11th Hussars, and been discharged ‘time expired’, no record of this service has been found. He does not appear on the medal rolls for any of the other three medals. He served with the West Kent Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa from 28 February 1900 until 16 June 1901, and was discharged on 17 August 1901. Sold with copy discharge papers.
