The Royal Regiment of Artillery, a very rare officer’s shako plate c1800-12, in die-stamped copper gilt, the back plate of rococo outline and bearing the crown over a circular strap ‘Royal Regt of Artillery’ enclosing the ‘GR’ cypher, this set upon a background of colours, swords, cannon barrels, muskets and linstocks, at the base a mortar with piles of shot to the sides (KK798a), no provision for attachment to the shako, little gilt remains and the central raised strap cracked around part of the perimeter £500-700
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Artillery Insignia formed by the late Norman Litchfield.
