The Anderton family group of four:

Lieutenant William Anderton, Adjutant & Quarter-Master, 1st Life Guards

Waterloo 1815 (Willm. Anderton, Corpl. 1st Regmt. Life Guards) contemporary re-engraved naming, fitted with steel clip and silver bar suspension and with large silver ribbon buckle, together with his Life Guards officer’s black patent leather pouch, the front flap ornamented with regimental badge

Captain J. A. Anderton, 19th Bombay Native Infantry

Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat (Lieut. J. A. Anderton, 19th Regt. N.I.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Captn. I. A. Anderton, 19th Bombay N.I.) both fitted with gilt ribbon brooches, the four medals contained in an old red leather fitted case together with additional silver suspension fitments on light blue moiré ribbon, the first with contact marks, good fine, the pouch generally worn and with faults commensurate with age, otherwise good very fine and better (5) £2000-2500

William Anderton fought at Waterloo as a Corporal in the 1st Life Guards. He was appointed Quarter-Master in the same regiment on 13 November 1827, becoming Adjutant and Quarter-Master in January 1831. He received his commission as Cornet in July 1835 and as Adjutant and Lieutenant in December 1837. He died sometime in 1848 or 1849.

William Frances Anderton purchased a commission as a Cornet in the 9th Lancers on 18 May 1841, and was promoted Lieutenant in November 1842. He served with the 9th Lancers during the Sutlej camapign and was present at the battle of Sobraon in February 1846. Lieutenant Anderton was also Riding Master in the regiment and died during 1847.

John Alfred Anderton was commissioned as Ensign in the 19th Bombay Native Infantry on 16 February 1840, and promoted to Lieutenant in October 1843. In June 1844 he was appointed Fort Adjutant to his corps at Surat, where, during the riot, consequent on raising the duty on Salt, Lieutenant Anderton was severely wounded. He resigned his commission in 1859. He was brother-in-law to Major J. W. Renny of the same regiment (See following lot). Sold with some family details including a colour scan of portrait miniatures of William Anderton in uniform wearing his Waterloo medal, and his wife.
