2 officers and 25 other ranks of 26th Company, Royal Engineers, fought at Abu Klea, the only engineers present.
James Tate was born in the Parish of Burton, near Brigg, Lincolnshire, and enlisted for the Royal Engineers on 10 October 1882. He served on the Nile from June 1884 to September 1885 as a Driver with 26th Co. R.E., transferred to the Army Reserve in December 1885 and was discharged on 9 October 1894. Sold with copy discharge papers.
