Owen, in white metal, 38mm (W & E 1820A.1), by A.E. Sir John Brown (1816-96), founder of John Brown & Co, Atlas Works, Brightside, mayor 1862-3, master cutler 1865-6, the self-styled father of the South Yorkshire iron trade, inventor of the spring-loaded railway buffer. The Duke and Duchess of York (later George V and Queen Mary) visited Sheffield on 10-11 May 1895
