The Uniform Coinage of India, East India Company, Victoria, silver Quarter-Rupee, 1840, type I [B/III], Madras, bust left, no curl on cheek, s [John Smith] on neck, victoria queen continuous, rev. 1/4 rupee, chahar ana surrounded by laurel wreath with 20 berries, east india company around, date below with stop to right, privy mark v on bow, edge grained, 2.92g/12h (Prid. 101 [Sale, lot 37]; SW 2.47; KM. 453.3; cf. Fore III, 2248). A superb early currency strike, brilliant mint state, reverse proof-like, most attractive olive tone £200-£260
