The Uniform Coinage of India, British Imperial Period: Patterns, George VI, nickel Pattern Half-Rupee, 1946, Bombay, unsigned [by P.W.M. Brindley], crowned bust left, george vi king emperor, rev. tiger walking left in a prowling stance, mountains above and groundline below, half rupee above, india and date flanked by dashes below, diamond centred below date, adha rupiya in Devanagri and Urdu at sides, wide rims, edge grained, 24mm, 5.81g/12h (Prid. –; SW –; KM. –). Brilliant and virtually as struck, a charismatic and attractive reverse design far superior to that chosen by the authorities for the currency series, of the highest rarity; no other specimens believed known £5,000-£7,000
