D.C.M. London Gazette 1 May 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed marked courage and coolness in repairing telephone wires in the open under a heavy fire. It was due to his determination and energy that communications were successfully maintained throughout the day. He also assisted another battery by taking up wire to its observation post under an intense fire. His devotion to duty was most praiseworthy.’
