William Blackman was born at Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Reading on 25 May 1854, aged 18. He served overseas in the Crimea for 1 year 7 months, and at Gibraltar for 1 years 4 months. He was finally discharged after 22 years’ service on 31 October 1876.
Sold with copied discharge papers which confirm both awards and entitlement to Turkish Crimea in addition.
