M.S.M. awarded without annuity per Army Order 132 of 1919 by King George V.
George Tompkins joined the Army on 2 August 1861 and, apart from his service in Abyssinia from 15 December 1867 to 23 June 1868, served at Home until retired to pension in November 1888. He was appointed to the Queen’s Body Guard on 13 March 1894, vice Sergeant-Major Ford, Scots Guards, and was still serving in 1919, when he was awarded the M.S.M. without annuity.
