William Smyth Maynard Wolfe was commissioned 1st Lieutenant on 19 December 1849; 2nd Lieutenant on 4 April 1851; and 2nd Captain on 23 February 1856. Captain Wolfe served at the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and on the expedition to Kertch in 1855 (Medal and Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
