‘Temp. 2nd Lt. James Charles Griffiths, R.F.A.
For conspicuous gallantry during operations. When a gun detachment had been buried by a shell in their dug-out, he immediately ran down and dug out those who remained alive, under very difficult and dangerous circumstances. He was under heavy shell fire the whole time.’
