Alan Stewart Miller was born on 4 March 1869, educated at the R.M.A., Wooleich, and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 16 February 1887. He was posted to No. 8 Mountain Battery at Rawal Pindi in April 1893 and served with his Battery in the Chitral Relief Force in 1895 Medal with Clasp. Unfortunately Miller died at Cherat in the Punjab on 9 August 1895, aged 25, from disease contracted in the Chitral campaign.
