Henry Conelly was born in Co. Down and was a Labourer by occupation. Enlisting into the 11th Foot on 27 August 1809, he served in Spain from February 1810 to March 1813 and in Spain and France from March 1813 to July 1814, being wounded at Salamanca. It was at this terrible battle that the regiment gained it’s soubriquet ‘The Bloody Eleventh’. Further service in Gibraltar followed during 1816-21, Portugal again during 1827-28 and the Ionian Islands during 1828-31. He was discharged on 9 May 1832. Clasps confirmed. Sold with copied service papers and notes.
