Samuel Dartch was born in the Parish of Crediton, Devon. A Labourer by trade, he enlisted for ‘life’ at Dublin on 5 April 1806, aged 23 years. Prior to enlistment he was in the Army Reserve, from 12 August 1803 to 24 March 1806. With the regiment he served in the Peninsular War and the Waterloo Campaign, in the latter serving as a Corporal in Captain Charles Tenlon’s Company. Dartch was discharged on 29 September 1825 due to ‘diseased liver and general bad health’. Clasps confirmed. Sold with copied discharge papers and research. N.B. Spelling of name varies: ‘Dartch’ on medal; ‘Darch’ on papers; ‘Daitch’ in Foster’s roll and ‘Darch’ in published Waterloo roll.
