James Robertson was born in Edinburgh. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted for unlimited service at Edinbugh in May 1807, aged 15 years. Serving with the regiment in Spain, he is known to have returned to England in October 1813 but had returned in time to be at the battle of Toulouse where he was listed as wounded. He is also listed as serving in the Waterloo Campaign. He was discharged on 25 June 1829 as a consequence of ‘chronic disease of the lungs and a broken constitution’. Clasps confirmed. N.B. Four men of this name on the Muster Rolls for the Peninsular War, three of whom served in the Waterloo Campaign, only two of whom survived to claim the M.G.S. - one a 5 clasp the other a 3 clasp.
