William George Barton was a resident of Woolwic, and was an explosives worker at Nobel’s Explosives Ltd. when he enlisted in 1913. As a munitions worker he was only called up for active service overseas in April 1918 and served with the 21st London (Howitzer) Battery R.F.A. He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 6 October 1918, his service papers noting that he served as an Officers’ Groom.
