Geoffrey Maynard Evans was born in December 1883 and was commissioned into the Welsh Regiment in January 1903, following 223 days in the Militia - presumably the Leicestershire Militia in Cape Colony in April-May 1902. Advanced to Lieutenant in July 1906, he appears to have resigned his commission shortly afterwards, in order to enter the Church, but was subsequently appointed a Chaplain 4th Class in the Army Chaplains’ Department in the Great War. The winner of an M.C., he was killed in action on 11 August 1917.
