Henry Healy was born at Limerick and enlisted in the 17th Regiment in March 1856, aged 19 years. In his subsequent career of 21 years with the Colours his overseas postings included North America and the West Indies, but he does not appear to have witnessed any active service prior to his discharge in the rank of Colour-Sergeant in April 1877.
