I.S.M. London Gazette 17 February 1922: Thomas McMurray, Sorting Clerk and Telegraphist, Liverpool.
Thomas McMurray was born in the Parish of Aughlish, near Scarva in County Armagh. A telegraphist by trade and having previously served 93 days in the R.E., he attested for the Royal Engineers at Belfast on 11 August 1880, aged 21 years, 8 months. With the Telegraph Battalion R.E. he served in Egypt from 3 September 1884 until 16 November 1886. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in August 1888 and discharged on 10 August 1892.
The group is sold with an original Pass ‘for the purpose of going to the Pyramids,’ dated Cairo, 1st October 1886, and an official copy of an Extract from C.R.E’s orders of 12th October 1885, naming Lce. Corpl. McMurray as having been mentioned as deserving of the special commendation of His Royal Highness for the good service performed during the recent campaign in Egypt and the Soudan. Also sold with copied service papers.
