On 1 July 1916 the 10th Brigade were situated opposite Beaumont Hamel, with the Warwicks and the 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers in reserve, providing reinforcements to hard pressed troops at the front. On 12 October 1916 the Warwicks were involved in the fight for the Transloy Ridges. Evans was killed in action on that day, aged 25 years.
