William Bird was born in Hoddersdon, Hertfordshire, lived in London and enlisted at Hoddersdon. Serving in the 6th (Service) Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he entered France on 19 July 1915. He was killed in action on the first day of the battle of Loos, 25 September 1915, aged 21 years. Having no known grave, his name was commemorated on the Loos Memorial. William Bird was the son of Charles Henry and Margaret Louisa Bird, of 159 Lord Street, Hoddersdon, Hertfordshire. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
