Benjamin Clarke was born at Norwich, Norfolk, and enlisted there for the 7th Hussars on 17 December 1813, aged 24, for unlimited service. He was discharged, on reduction of the regiment, on 22 August 1821, after 9 years 249 days service, including 2 years for Waterloo. His conduct was described as ‘exceedingly good’ and he ‘was wounded in the head and shoulder by a lance at Waterloo’ causing impaired vision of the right eye. He was admitted to out-pension at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, on 29 August 1821. Sold with copied discharge papers.
