John Jenkinson was born in the Parish of Syford, Staffordshire, and enlisted into the Grenadier Guards at Birmingham on 2 October 1799, aged 18, for unlimited service. He was present at Waterloo in Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas’s Company, and was discharged on 11 October 1820, in consequence of rheumatism contracted in Flanders in 1813.
