Provenance: Glendining, May 1924 and March 1927.

Charles Thompson was appointed a Lieutenant in the 27th Foot on 13 September 1795. He served in the West Indies 1796-98, being present at the siege of Morne Fortuné, St Lucia, action of 24 May 1796, and the reduction of the island of Grenada. He served in Holland in 1799, was promoted to Captain on 21 May 1800, and was employed in the Mediterranean from May 1801. He served with the 27th Foot at the battle of Maida in 1805 and was promoted to Major on 25 February 1808. He was present with the 1st Battalion on the east coast of Spain from November 1812 to April 1814, seeing service at Castalla, Tarragona and Barcelona. He was awarded the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel on 4 June 1814, and disappears from the Army List in 1826.
