George Drury was appointed an Ensign in the 33rd Foot on 9 February 1815, and was the most junior officer in the regiment at Waterloo, where he was severely wounded. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 23 November 1815, and was placed on the half- pay in 1817. He died at Bruges where, on a grey marble slab in the General Cemetery, is the following inscription: ‘Sacred to the memory of Lieut. George Drury, late of the 33rd regiment of foot, who died here, after a few hours’ illness, of cholera morbus, on the 5th day of October 1832, in the 44th year of his age, deeply and sincerely lamented by his family and friends.’
