James Rowland was born in the Parish of St Peter’s, Nottingham, and enlisted into the 90th Foot on 21 December 1802, a Framework Knitter by trade. He served with the 90th for a little over 17 years, before being transferred to a Royal Veteran Battalion on 4 March 1820, from which he was discharged on 24 July 1821, aged 37.
