Archie Ceylon Randle was born at sea aboard the Frances in December 1885 - his second name no doubt suggesting the nearest landfall to mother and child. Having served as a Master in the Mercantile Marine in the Great War, he was appointed a Temporary Lieutenant in the Inland Waterway Transport (London Gazette 6 October 1919 refers), and witnessed active service in the Iraq operations (Medal & clasp). He was similarly employed as late as the summer of 1921; sold with further details.
