George Hilliard was appointed Ensign in the 18th Royal Irish Regiment on 13 February 1835, and promoted to Lieutenant on 23 October 1839. He served with the 18th Regiment on the China expedition (Medal) at the Bogue Forts, Canton (wounded), Amoy, Chapoo, Shanghai, Woosung, and Chin Kiang Foo. He was promoted to Captain on 15 October 1850, and was placed on Half Pay the same day. Captain Hilliard appears to have died during 1855.
