William Lambert was born at Stonham Aspel, Suffolk in March 1876 and volunteered for the Royal Navy in August 1914. Little else is known about his subsequent career, other than the fact he was serving aboard the cruiser H.M.S. Royalist in August 1915, so he may still have been employed in her at the Battle of Jutland in the following year.
