Frederick William Dutton, who was born in August 1898, originally enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment in September 1914 but sometime thereafter transferred to the Rifle Brigade. Later still, while stationed out in the Middle East, he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, gaining advancement to Air Mechanic 1st Class in November 1917 and to Sergeant Clerk in October 1918, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (London Gazette 1 January 1919 refers). Recalled from the Reserve in the 1939-45 War, he served again in the Middle East, from December 1941 until August 1944; accompanying research refers.
