Lord (George Augustus) Frederick Fitzclarence, illegitimate son of William IV and Mrs Jordan, served in India during the Mahratta War of 1816-17 as Aide de Camp to Marquis Hastings. This award is believed to date from that period. Fitzclarence was created 1st Earl of Munster in May 1831 and committed suicide in 1842.
