D.S.O. London Gazette 3 June 1919.

Ernest Arthur Ash was originally commissioned in the 5th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment in June 1900, but did not witness any active service until entering the French theatre of war as a Captain in the Connaught Rangers. It was, however, for his command of the 2/6th Durham Light Infantry in the rank of Acting Lieutenant-Colonel that he was awarded his D.S.O., in addition to a mention in despatches (
London Gazette 9 July 1919, refers).

Of his subsequent services in the Malay States Volunteer Regiment, the local
Government Gazette verifies the awards of his Colonial Auxiliary Long Service Medal and Decoration, relevant announcements appearing under clause No. 3560 of 16 June 1922 and Clause No. 261 of 26 January 1923; sold with five original Great War period photographs; sold with research.
