John Humber; appointed a Lieutenant in the 4th (Militia) Battalion Derbyshire Regiment on 24 July 1886 and promoted to Captain in May 1890. Served in South Africa 1899-1900 with the 4th Volunteer Battalion. Was captured by the Boers at Roodeval on 7 June 1900 but later released. Appointed an Honorary Major in December 1900, he retired in August 1901.
