M.M. London Gazette 18 June 1917.
Citation: ‘For excellent work on 23rd April 1917 during the attack on Fosse 3 De Lievin. He was in charge of a Lewis gun which became isolated. He was heavily shelled by enemy trench mortars and his gun got buried. In spite of this and heavy casualties he held on, and drove off with severe losses an enemy party who attacked his post.’ (ref. Listed in the 1/6th Battalion casualty book as having been wounded on 30 May 1917 at Lievin and on 28 July 1917 at St. Elie.
Evans was killed in a coal mining accident on 10 March 1939. With copied research, including a copied photograph of the recipient and his wife.
