Thomas Brindley was born in Pleasley, Mansfield in 1876. A former Deputy at the Pleasley Colliery and Stanton Iron Works, he attested for the Notts. & Derby. Regiment on 14 September 1914, aged 38 years. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 28 August 1915. Promoted to Acting Serjeant in October 1914 and was confirmed in that rank in January 1915. Reduced to the ranks in December 1915 ‘for inefficiency’. Transferred from the 11th Battalion to 181 Tunnelling Company Royal Engineers on 27 March 1918. Discharged on medical grounds on 31 July 1918. With copied research.
