He was discharged to shore on expiration of his 10 year C.S. in April 1873 and because of the loss of the big toe on his right foot he was no longer fit as a seaman. In December 1873 he managed to sign on again as a Ship’s Cook 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. Duke of Wellington. He joined H.M.S. Hart in June 1874 and whilst in this ship received his L.S. & G.C. medal on 24 August 1875, and took part in the Perak campaign from November 1875 to March 1876. He was finally shore pensioned on 29 January 1884. Sold with full service details.
