19th Century, Gloucestershire, Eastington, Great Exhibition, 1851, a bronze award medal by W. and L.C. Wyon, conjoined busts of Victoria and Prince Albert left, rev. Britannia placing a wreath on kneeling figure of Industry, attended by supporters representing the continents, edge named (C. Hooper & Co, Class XII), 77mm (Allen A25; BHM 2462; E 1457). Tiny nick in obverse field, otherwise virtually as struck; in original maroon case of issue by Barnby, Clerkenwell (£120-150)

The three mills of Eastington, Churchend, Millend and Meadow, were by 1833 managed by Charles Hooper for Hicks Bros. Hooper’s cloth manufactory, Charles Hooper & Co, employed 300 at the mills and some 200 outdoor weavers; on his death in 1869 the mills were inherited by his son, Charles Henry Hooper.
