20th Century, Gloucestershire, Stroud, Exposition Universelle, Brussels, 1910, a bronze award medal by G. Devreese, equestrian figure blowing trumpet, rev. robed female preparing to crown artisan, named (Albert Joseph Hoskins, Cooperator, Apperly, Curtis & Co Ltd), 71mm (BDM VI, 320; cf. DNW 38, 679). Good very fine (£20-30)

Dudbridge Mill, first recorded in the late 12th century, comprised cloth and corn mills which by 1832 were being occupied by John Apperly, whose business was carried on after 1834 by his sons James and David. David’s son, Alfred, took over the family firm in 1872 which became Apperly, Curtis & Co in 1895. Financial difficulties brought about the closure of the mill in 1933. Further details from
